Oscar-nominated cinematographer Seamus McGarvey will return to Irish shores this month to participate in two key events at the Darklight Festival.
On August 24, the Armagh-born cinematographer will discuss his work on this year’s record-breaking blockbuster ‘Avengers Assemble’, in a masterclass entitled ‘From Shooting to Computing’, in association with FÁS Screen Training Ireland.
McGarvey will be joined by Marvel’s VFX supervisor Jake Morrison (Iron Man 2, 300) when the pair will discuss how to ensure the best possible results for the post-production stage; shooting 2D for 3D; working on in-camera effects; filming using green screen; lighting techniques; and the best ways to prep for high end VFX.
The duo will also discuss the special relationship between the cinematographer and VFX supervisor, showing clips from ‘Avengers Assemble’ as they discuss their creative decisions, technical problems and solutions.
IFTA award-winning cinematographer PJ Dillon (The Runway) will host the masterclass, which will take place at The Factory from 3.30pm to 6.30pm.
