Hawk Koch named new Oscars president…Hollywood producer Hawk Koch has been named the new president of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which stages the Oscars every year. Koch, whose credits include ‘Wayne’s World’, ‘Primal Fear’ and ‘Source Code’, replaces Tom Sherak, after three years. Koch (66) had already served as first vice president of the film academy last year, and is currently also co-president of the Producers Guild of America.
Dreamworks may launch family TV channel…Dreamworks, the studio behind ‘Shrek’, is reportedly talking with distributors about launching a new cable TV channel following its purchase of Classic Media, owners of the rights of ‘Casper’, ‘Lassie’ and a number of other family-friendly characters. CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg said his company was in “aggressive exploration” to start a family-oriented channel at a conference to announce the company’s second-quarter earnings.
