Principal photography has finished up on the set of the feature film ‘Charlie Casanova’, the directorial debut feature from multi-award winning writer Terry McMahon (Sisk) starring Irish actors Emmett Scanlan and Leigh Arnold.
The feature, filmed over 12 days in Dublin city tells the story of Charlie, a man who has it all - the perfect wife, the property portfolio and the loyalty of his best friend. However Charlie requires Viagra to have sex with his wife, is losing his properties, and has seduced his best friend’s wife, all of which mean nothing to him, because Charlie is living on dangerously borrowed time. The Ghe film is further described by Terry as “a darkly satirical ensemble exploration of the ruling class who had it all and threw it all away” and stars Emmett Scanlan (The Guards), Leigh Arnold (The Clinic), Tony Murphy and Damien Hannaway (The Guards).
‘Charlie Casanova’ is written by Terry and produced by both himself and Sector Seven's Franco Noonan (Hoodies), under the umbrella company Source Productions. Director Terry tells IFTN his first experience as a feature helmer was a thoroughly positive one: “I loved it,” he enthuses, “we encountered every problem conceivable but they were all surmountable and, in the end, this is the reason why we get involved – two people a camera and taboo.”
’Charlie Casanova’ sees Eoin Macken (stills photographer, Tuards) in the role of director of photography and is to be edited by Tony Kearns (Last Night). The film will enter into formal editing in March of this year and is expected to be completed in April. It is as yet undecided what kind of release the feature will have.
