09 Dec 2014 : Seán Brosnan
Irish costume designer Consolata Boyle was among the winners at the 24th annual Women in Film and Television Awards at the Park Lane Hilton Hotel in London on Friday.

She was presented with the Panalux Craft Award for her work over the past two years, including ‘Philomena’ for which she received a Costume Designers Guild Award nomination and an IFTA earlier this year, and ‘Testament of Youth’, which opens in January.

Broadcaster and presenter Sandi Toksvig hosted the event where 1,000 of film and TV’s most influential industry guests gathered to celebrate the year’s most inspiring women.

Gemma Arterton, who has worked with Consolata on films ‘Tamara Drewe’ and Neil Jordan’s ‘Byzantium’ presented her with the award.

Speaking to IFTN after the win, Consolata said: ‘I've had a very busy year, working away designing two feature feature films ‘Testament of Youth’ and ‘Altamira’ (shot in Spain) and an opera in Ireland in between – and to finish it with an award from my peers and colleagues was the best Christmas present that I could have had!’

Consolata has been one of Ireland’s most celebrated costume designers over the last decade having picked up an Oscar nomination and a BAFTA nomination for her work in the 2006 British film ‘The Queen’ starring Helen Mirren - as well as a Primetime Emmy award for the 2003 television movie ‘The Lion in Winter’.

She has also been nominated for five IFTA awards, winning four, including one earlier this year for her work in ‘Philomena’ starring Steve Coogan and Judi Dench.

Other winners at the prestigious event included ‘Gone Girl’ actress Rosamund Pike - who was given the MAC Best Performance Award for her work in the film – and Vanessa Redgrave who was given the EON Productions Lifetime Achievement Award. Redgrave is slated to star in ‘The Secret Scripture’, Jim Sheridan’s upcoming adaptation of Sebastian Barry’s novel which will also star Rooney Mara, Theo James and Jack Reynor and is due to start shooting in the coming weeks.
