For 2014, Screen Training Ireland will be supporting several seminars, forums, workshops and introductory courses at the Corona Fastnet Short Film Festival, a guide to which is available below. The film festival takes place in Schull, Co. Cork, from Friday May 21st to Sunday 25th.

In one of the festival’s earlier events, a producer’s forum will be held on May 23rd at 10am with Gabrielle Tana, Catherine Tiernan, Pat Collins and Tracey Seaward among the panel members. The forum offers an opportunity to meet experienced members of the film and TV industry, and to raise topics for discussion and put questions to the panel. This opportunity is also afforded by the director’s forum which takes place the following day and is chaired by John Kelleher with Jack Gould, Carmel Winters and Stephen Frears.

A writer’s forum will take place on the 24th, which will be chaired by Gerry Stembridge and includes Donal Beecher, Carmel Winters and Steve Coogan in the panel. Finally, in a free event (all other forums, and seminars, cost €5 each), there will be a technical forum to allow those who attended seminars, forums and workshops to collaborate with experts in the discussion of equipment and craft issues. It will be chaired by Chris O’Dell with Ian D Murphy, Killian Fitzgerald, Rupert MacCarthy and other industry experts.

There will be a seminar from producer David Putman on working with ‘Evita’ director Alan Parker on the 24th, and all other seminars take place on the 23rd. There will be a sound recordist seminar with PJ Parkin introducing sound recording techniques at 12.15, followed by a DoP seminar with Ian D Murphy for all levels. An assistant director seminar with Mike Mallinson and an animation seminar with David Quinn will also take place, as well as an inticing music seminar with Jim Sheridan, Jack Gold and Maurice Seezer on the role of music in film.

Saturday 24th May of the festival sees a number of workshops and introductory courses on lighting and gaffer, sound, the digital camera, Final Cut Pro picture and sound editing, and post-production grade editing. All take place at the Satellite Centre and attendance is €10. Saturday also hosts a morning one-on-one funding clinic with mentors Gaby Smith and Hilary Durman at the Carlton cinema, which is free though individual sessions need to be booked through the CFSFF box office.

Places for all events are limited. Bookings should be made through the Corona Fastnet Short Film Festival Box-Office at 028 28600. See the festival programme or website for further information.
