Director Lenny Abrahamson and co-stars Michael Fassbender and Domhnall Gleeson will attend the European premiere of their new film ‘Frank’ in Dublin next week. The screening will take place on Thursday April 24th at the Light House Cinema, Smithfield. The film is about a wannabe musician Jon (Gleeson) who joins an alternative electronic group led by the mysterious Frank (Fassbender).
Written by Jon Ronson and Peter Straughan, the film also stars Maggie Gyllenhaal (‘The Dark Knight’), Scott McNairy (‘Argo’), musician Carla Azar (drummer on Jack White’s album ‘Blunderbuss’) and French actor/musician Francois Civil.
The feature is an Element Pictures/Runaway Fridge production for Protagonist Pictures, Film4, BFI and the Irish Film Board (and received funding from the latter three). The screenplay for ‘Frank’ was written by Jon Ronson and Peter Straughan. The film was produced by Ed Guiney, David Barron and Stevie Lee, with executive producers Tessa Ross, Katherine Butler, Andrew Lowe and Nigel Williams.
‘Frank’ marks Abrahamson’s fourth feature film, following ‘Adam & Paul’, ‘Garage’ and ‘What Richard Did’, all IFTA winners. His films have also won awards at festivals in Cannes, Torino, Bulgaria and many other places. Producer Ed Guiney’s credits include ‘The Guard’, ‘Shadow Dancer’ and all of Lenny Abrahamson’s films to date.
It was recently confirmed that ‘Frank’ has secured several international deals, which can be read about here. The film will receive its UK premiere at Sundance London on 25th April.
‘Frank’ will be released in Irish cinemas nationwide on May 9th.
