Jim Sheridan’s many writing credits include ‘My Left Foot’, ‘The Field’, ‘Into the West’, ‘In the Name of the Father’, ‘The Boxer’ and ‘In America’, the majority of which he also directed.
An IFTA winner and six-time Oscar nominee, the latest recognition for Sheridan’s contribution to cinema has been the confirmation that he will receive the ‘Distinguished Screenwriter’ Award at the 2014 Austin Film Festival and Screenwriters’ Conference.
The Austin Film Festival (AFF) recognises writers’ as well as filmmakers’ impact on film, television and new media. The award that Sheridan is to receive ‘recognises a Distinguished Screenwriter for their collective work that has elevated and heavily contributed to the culture of film.’
Conference Director Erin Hallagan has stated, “We are thrilled to be honouring Jim Sheridan for our 21st anniversary. His body of work truly encapsulates the mission of Austin Film Festival.”
Previous recipients of the award have included Robert Altman, Lawrence Kasdan, Callie Khouri, Richard LaGravanese, Barry Levinson, John Milius, Paul Schrader and Steven Zaillian.
Sheridan will accept the award at the festival's annual Awards Luncheon held on Saturday October 25. He will also be a panellist at the conference joining William Broyles, Terry George, John Hamburg, Richard Kelly, Kelly Marcel, Alvaro Rodriguez and Jim Uhls among others.
