25 Oct 2019 : News Desk
Dundalk Institute of Technology
DkIT's one year part-time Springboard funded Certificate in Data Wrangling and Digital Imaging is the only course in Ireland aimed at training Data Wranglers and Digital Imaging Technicians.

This is the only course in Ireland aimed at training Data Wranglers and Digital Imaging Technicians, which are relatively new roles in digital audio-visual productions. Having this qualification may give participants the edge in terms of employment prospects. This Springboard funded part-time course is intended for those already in employment who wish to upskill and will be delivered in a blend of on-site and online - thus facilitating those with busy work lives.

Participants will gain practical knowledge in the area of data wrangling with regard to on-set file backup procedures, the techniques and softwares used to ensure the integrity of files produced on-set, and the range of hardware used in industry for long term backup purposes. This will include familiarity with LTO (linear tape open) tape storage systems.

The programme will also give participants a full understanding of high-end digital production and post-production workflows relevant to the role of a Digital Imaging Technician. Upon completion of this course, participants will either be ready to establish themselves as audiovisual professionals equipped with skills for the digital age. The intention of this programme is that students will be equipped to take up the role of Data Wrangler or Digital Imaging Technician immediately upon completion of the course.

Four reasons to consider this course:

  • This is the only course in Ireland specifically aimed at training Data Wranglers and Digital Imaging Technicians.
  • These are new roles on high end digital audio-visual productions and having this qualification may give participants the edge in terms of employment prospects.
  • This is a part-time course intended for those already in employment who wish to upskill.
  • The course will be delivered in a blend of on-site and online - thus facilitating those with busy work lives.

The level 8 course commences in January 2020 and is one year in duration. The cost of the course is €355 (Springboard subsidised) and spaces are limited. The deadline for applications is Friday, 29th November.
