21 May 2019 : News Desk
Break Out Pictures
Irish duo Nell Roddy and Robert McCann have announced the launch of Break Out Pictures, a new film and event cinema distribution company with a dedication to supporting emerging and established creatives.

The pair will bring their unique knowledge and creativity to every project through innovative and bespoke campaigns and release strategies.

Both Roddy and Finn are highly experienced film professionals with over a decade’s experience working across the theatrical and exhibition Irish and UK landscape, most recently they both worked with Element Pictures Distribution where they headed up sales and publicity in the Irish market across a diverse slate of films including ‘The Guard’, which grossed over €4m at the box-office, Lenny Abrahamson’s Oscar-winning ‘Room’, Yorgos Lanthimos’ ‘Lobster’ and Cartoon Saloon’s much celebrated ‘Song of the Sea’.  They also worked on all StudioCanal and Royal Opera House titles released in Ireland over the past 10 years.

Speaking on their new venture they commented:

We’ve always both been huge fans of independent film and Ireland is now producing some of the most exciting cinema in the world so it absolutely feels like an opportune time to be launching a brand new Irish Distribution company. We will also expand our slate into event cinema and hope to announce some exciting plans over the coming months.”

Break Out will release Hugh O’Conor’s directorial debut ‘Metal Heart’, a teen coming-of-age comedy later this summer which stars Jordanne Jones, Leah McNamara and Moe Dunford with a script penned by Paul Murray. This Autumn Break Out Pictures will release Tom Burke’s feature documentary 'Losing Alaska’, a timely film looking at the very real consequences of climate change.

Autumn will also see them bring acclaimed documentary maker Brendan Byrne’s ‘One Million American Dreams’ to the big screen as well as Ian Fitzgibbon’s pitch-black comedy ‘Dark Lies The Island’, written by Kevin Barry and starring Pat Shortt, Charlie Murphy, Peter Coonan, Moe Dunford and Tommy Tiernan.
