Jordanne Jones in 'Metal Heart'
In the run in to Christmas, we have invited some of Ireland’s leading Film & TV talents to take part in IFTN’s festive Q&A.

Jordanne Jones’ flourishing acting career began in emphatic fashion through her leading role in Frank Berry’s ‘I Used to Live Here’. At just 14 years old, her performance earned her an IFTA nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role and saw her win the Dublin Film Critics Breakthrough Award for 2015. Irish Times film critic Donald Clarke said of the performance: “The weight of the film lies particularly heavily on Jones’s narrow shoulders and she emerges as a pocket marvel”.

Jordanne starred as Minnie Mahon in RTÉ’s ‘Rebellion’, alongside Charlie Murphy, Ruth Bradley and Sarah Greene, which followed fictional storylines during the period surrounding the 1916 Easter Rising. Jordanne also appeared in the short film ‘My Father My Blood’ opposite Barry Ward and IFTA award-winning short film ‘Heartbreak’ by Emmet Kirwan, a spoken word piece distributed on YouTube directed by Dave Tynan, which gathered huge viewing numbers in 2017.

More recently, Jordanne won the Bingham Ray New Talent Award at the 2018 Galway Film Fleadh for her performance in Treasure Entertainment’s ‘Metal Heart’, directed by Hugh O’Connor.

IFTN journalist Nathan Griffin caught up with Jordanne ahead of the festive season.

What was your favourite Film of 2018?

“A star is born - It felt honest about something very difficult to discuss: addiction. We got to learn about Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper) as an individual with interests and personality, he was a person and not just his addiction, which meant a lot to me. I also was happy that we saw the trauma and pain the addict’s family endure, more should be done for the families of addicts and I hope this brings light to that.”

What TV Show did you binge watch this year?

“Ozark! It is done beautifully.”

What Irish talent have you been impressed with over the past 12 months?

“Daryl McCormack, I done a short with him recently and I knew he was great but now he’s after landing a role in Peaky Blinders, he’s going to go on to do great things.”

What International talent would you most like to work with?

“Greta Gerwig! Amazing in 20th Century Women and of course Lady Bird, a blessing to my eyes.”

What two film/television personalities would you most like to have dinner with and why? (invite over for Christmas dinner) (Dead/Alive)

“Frank N. Furter (Tim Curry) from Rocky Horror because obviously and I don’t know Neil Sutherland (Blake Harrison) from the Inbetweeners, I think it would be an eventful night without a doubt.”

What’s your favourite movie to watch on Christmas day?

“Nightmare before Christmas, I watched it a lot with all my cousins and it brings me back and makes me feel all cosy and spooked.”
