BBC America's 'Killing Eve' Starring Owen McDonnell & Fiona Shaw Airs on RTE – Monday, August 27th
27 Aug 2018 : Nathan Griffin
RTÉ will debut BBC America’s new action spy-thriller ‘Killing Eve’ with a special double bill this Monday, August 27th.

Based on the novellas by Luke Jennings and written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, ‘Killing Eve’ centres on two women; Eve is a bored, whip-smart, pay-grade MI5 security officer whose desk-bound job doesn’t fulfil her fantasies of being a spy. Villanelle is a mercurial, talented killer who clings to the luxuries her violent job affords her.

Created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (‘Fleabag’), ‘Killing Eve’ stars leading actors Sandra Oh (‘Grey’s Anatomy’) and Jodie Comer (‘Doctor Foster’). The show also stars Irish actors Fiona Shaw (‘True Blood’) and Owen McDonnell (‘Paula’).

Speaking about what Irish audiences can expect from the show, actor Owen McDonnell told IFTN:

“I suppose people can expect a really high quality thriller, but with some of the gender roles turned on their heads and shot through Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s unique humour and world view. The characters face the extraordinary situations they find themselves in like real people would, not like traditional heroes or villains. And that makes for really engaging and at times hilarious telly. “

Starring a strong Irish cast, ‘Killing Eve’ topples the typical spy-action thriller as the show follows two fiercely intelligent women, equally obsessed with each other, go head to head in an epic game of cat and mouse. MI5 security officer Eve Polastri is bored in her job and yearns for a more exciting life but soon finds herself on a collision course with violent and extraordinary assassin, Villanelle.

Speaking about the great cast on the show, Owen McDonnell added:

“The cast are exceptional. Most of my stuff is with Sandra Oh and she is an absolute joy. Works so hard, but respects everyone on set. Her and Jodie set a brilliant tone and standard that trickles down through every department. I think it's a great show and I'm so chuffed to get to be a part of it. Already enjoying making season two...”

‘Killing Eve’ airs on RTÉ this Monday, August 27th at 9:30pm.
