Emmet Kirwan’s 'Dublin Oldschool' Releases in Irish Cinemas – Friday, June 29th
29 Jun 2018 : Nathan Griffin
Element Pictures Distribution has released Warrior Film's highly anticipated debut feature film ‘Dublin Oldschool’, which is directed by Dave Tynan who also co-wrote the adapted screenplay with writer/actor Emmet Kirwan. The film is available in cinemas nationwide from Friday, June 29th.

IFTN journalist Nathan Griffin recently caught up with the stars of the film and original stage play, Emmet Kirwan & Ian Lloyd Anderson to find out about their experience of transforming the critically acclaimed two man play into a feature-length film on the big screen.

Following on from the viral success of ‘Heartbreak’, which led to director Dave Tynan and writer Emmet Kirwan picking up an IFTA for ‘Best Short Film’ at the 2017 IFTA Film & Drama Awards, the pairs' debut feature film 'Dublin Oldschool' is due for release in cinemas nationwide next Friday, June 29th.

'Dublin Oldschool' tells the story of Jason, a wannabe DJ, on a drug-fuelled trip through the streets of Dublin. Somewhere between the DJs, decks, and drug busts he stumbles across a familiar face from the past, his brother Daniel. An educated heroin addict, Daniel lives on the streets. The brothers haven’t seen or spoken to each other in years but over a lost weekend they reconnect and reminisce over raves, tunes and their troubled past. Two brothers living very different lives might have more in common than they think.

The film, which is adapted from the successful stage play of the same name, is directed by Dave Tynan, and co-written by Emmet Kirwan & Tynan. The film boasts a great cast that includes Emmet Kirwan (‘Heartbreak’, ‘71’), Ian Lloyd Anderson (‘Love/Hate’, ‘GoT’), Seána Kerslake (‘A Date for Mad Mary’, ‘Can’t Cope, Won’t Cope’), Sarah Greene (‘Penny Dreadful’, ‘Black 47’), Ciaran Grace (‘Love/Hate’, ‘Black 47’), and Mark O’Halloran (‘Adam & Paul’, ‘History’s Future’).

The film was produced by Warrior Films and is being distributed by Element Pictures Distribution.
