Two Irish Actors Nominated for Best Actor at TV Choice Awards
27 Jun 2018 : Nathan Griffin
Irish actors Cillian Murphy & Aidan Turner have both been nominated in the ‘Best Actor’ category of the 2018 TV Choice Awards in the UK.

This comes following the continued success of Turner’s ‘Poldark’ and Murphy’s ‘Peaky Blinders’, which are both commissioned by the BBC.

Centred on the criminal activity of the Shelby family, which is spearheaded by the cunning Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy), ‘Peaky Blinders’ follows the meteoric rise of the infamous Shelby clan in 1920s post-war Birmingham. The BBC’s most popular drama picked up three nominations at this year’s TV Choice Awards including ‘Best Drama Series’, ‘Best Actor’ for Cillian Murphy, and ‘Best Actress’ for Helen McCrory who plays Aunt Polly on the show.

Similarly, ‘Poldark’ picked up a nomination for ‘Best Drama Series’, which will see the two BBC Two dramas faceoff against Caitriona Balfe’s ‘Outlander’ and BBC One’s ‘Doctor Foster’ for the award. ‘Poldark’, now going into its fifth season, is set after the American Revolutionary War. The period drama follows Poldark (Turner) as he attempts to rebuild his life upon his return to Britain with a new business venture, making new enemies and finding a new love where he least expects it.

Aidan Turner & Cillian Murphy are accompanied by Martin Clunes (‘Doc Martin’) and William Beck (‘Catastrophe’) in the ‘Best Actor’ category at this year’s awards.

The winners will be announced at the TV Choice Awards, which will take place on Monday, September 10th and will be presented by Richard Osman.
