EVENT POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER. IFTA winning James Phelan at Lexicon Library Studio Hosting 'The Future of Irish Animation' Event

The studio at the Lexicon library in Dun Laoghaire is hosting an event about the future of Irish animation on the evening of Thursday March 1st.

The event will bring together experienced working writers and producers for an informal but informative two hour session discussing Ireland's animation boom and what the future holds for this exciting cultural sector.

As Ireland steadily cements its' reputation for being a world class centre for animation, what are the opportunities, possibilities and pitfalls ahead?

Hosted by Lexicon writer in residence James Phelan, this event presents an opportunity to gain rare insight into the working lives and creative processes of animation professionals at the cutting edge of where traditional storytelling meets digital advancement.

Confirmed guests include Lena Byrne from JAM Media, Alan Keane from Hot Drop Films and the prolific animation screenwriter Mark Hodkinson whose credits include ‘Little Roy’, ‘Violet’ and ‘The School for Vampires’.

Screenwriter in residence at the Lexicon, James Phelan has also steadily accumulated credits in animation in recent years. Better known for dramas like ‘Striking Out’ and his IFTA winning scripts for ‘Wrecking the Rising’, James hopes to add some personal insight into this exploration of the animation landscape.

James explains ‘the theme of the residency of this entire year at the Lexicon is the future. That theme manifests in not just the live action science fiction screenplay I am writing as part of the residency but also in the events I am looking to stage. With the current animation scene being so dynamic In Ireland, I think it’s a good time to take stock and look forward’.

The event is being organised with the assistance of the DLR Arts Office and the Lexicon library staff. Further details about the event are available via the DLR website. Tickets are free but have to be applied for beforehand.
