Colin Morgan is cast as the male lead in new supernatural BBC One drama ‘The Living And The Dead’ while Colin Farrell and up and coming Irish actress Jenn Murray both land roles in Harry Potter spinoff ‘Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them’.

Colin Morgan cast as male lead in BBC One six parter ‘The Living And The Dead’

Colin Morgan has been cast as the male lead in ‘The Living And The Dead’, a new six part original series for BBC One.

The original six part series, described as a supernatural drama, is created by Ashley Pharoah (Life On Mars, Ashes To Ashes, Moonfleet) and will also star Charlotte Spencer (Glue, Stonemouth, Line Of Duty).

The show tells the story of a brilliant young couple who inherit an old farmhouse and are determined to start a new life together. But their presence in this isolated corner of England starts to unleash strange, unsettling and dangerous supernatural phenomena that will start to threaten their marriage.

Colin Morgan is well known internationally for roles in ‘Merlin’ and ‘Humans’ and he also had a significant role in season two of acclaimed Belfast shot drama series ‘The Fall’ opposite Jamie Dornan. Morgan has also been cast in the lead role of upcoming Irish feature film 'The Rising', directed by Kevin McCann.

Speaking about his role in the new series, Morgan said: "The Living And The Dead is one of those scripts that you read and are instantly compelled and engaged by. It's intelligent, chilling and engrossing. It's going to be very special and I can't wait to start working on it with the wonderful creative team.”

The executive producers are Ashley Pharoah and Matthew Graham for Monastic Productions, Faith Penhale, Head of BBC Wales Drama Production, and Katie McAleese for BBC Wales Drama Production.

Eliza Mellor (Poldark, Death Comes To Pemberley) is producer and director Alice Troughton (Cucumber, In The Flesh) will launch the series.

Commissioned by Charlotte Moore, Controller of BBC One, and Ben Stephenson, previous Controller of BBC Drama Commissioning, The Living And The Dead is a BBC Wales Drama production in association with Monastic Productions and co-produced with BBC America. It will be distributed internationally by BBC Worldwide.

Colin Farrell and Jenn Murray for Harry Potter spinoff with Eddie Redmayne

Irish actors Colin Farrell and Jenn Murray have both signed on for roles in JK Rowling’s and Warner Bros. Harry Potter spinoff ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them’.

The film will star Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne (‘The Theory of Everything’) in the lead role of Newt Scamander and other actors cast include Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller and Alison Sudol.

Farrell will play Graves, a wizard that Newt Scamander meets in New York. Murray’s role is unspecified. The story of the new film centers on Newt's adventures in the secret community of witches and wizards as he attempts to document magical creatures. The events of Fantastic Beasts take place 70 years before Harry Potter reads Newt's book in school.

The film will be directed by David Yates with the script being written by JK Rowling.

Colin Farrell is currently starring in HBO’s ‘True Detective’ and he also has the lead role in Yargos Lanthimos critically acclaimed Cannes winner ‘The Lobster’, which was co-produced by Element Pictures and partially funded by the Irish Film Board.

Up and coming actress Jenn Murray has small roles in John Crowley’s Sundance hit ‘Brooklyn’ as well as Whit Stillman’s Jane Austen adaptation ‘Love and Friendship’. Her breakthrough role was in the 2008 horror ‘Dorothy Mills’, a part which garnered her an IFTA Award nomination for Best Actress.
