Northern Irish actor Stephen Rea has won a BAFTA TV Award for his role in the British political spy thriller series ‘The Honourable Woman’.
Rea’s acclaimed role as Sir Hugh Hayden-Hoyle - the outgoing head of MI6's Middle East desk – was recognised ahead of Adeel Akhtar for ‘Utopia’, James Norton for ‘Happy Valley’ and Ken Stott for ‘The Missing’.
Rea is also up for an IFTA Award for his role in the show – which aired last July on BBC Two and went on win a Peabody Award earlier this year.
This is Rea’s first BAFTA Award – having been nominated for the honour twice before – in 2012 for ‘The Shadow Line’ and 1993 for Neil Jordan’s ‘The Crying Game’ (which also garnered him an Oscar nomination).
Also of Irish interest on the night was ‘The Graham Norton Show’ (spearheaded by Irish comedian and actor Graham Norton) winning the BAFTA in the category of Comedy and Comedy Entertainment Program.
