Submissions now open for the 2015 Foyle Film Festival Light In Motion Awards
27 Apr 2015 : Seán Brosnan
2015 Festival will take place from 18-22 November
The 28th Foyle Film Festival will begin its submissions process for the 2015 Light In Motion (LIM) Awards from Monday 27 April 2015.

The Foyle Film Festival, now in its 28th year, is one of only a handful of International festivals with Oscar, BAFTA and BIFA affiliation.

Submissions are now open for the Short Film, Short Animation and Feature Documentary categories. Recipients of the LIM Award for Best Film qualify for consideration in the Short Films Category of the Annual Academy Awards without the standard theatrical run, provided the film otherwise complies with the Academy rules.

The Festival, organised by the Nerve Centre, and funded and supported by Northern Ireland Screen and Derry City Council, delivers a comprehensive programme of documentaries, short films, short animations and feature films from all over the world; a full programme of educational events for schools, youth, and adults and an impressive array of industry networking events and panel discussions.

The competition at Foyle Film Festival enjoys a successful list of winners who go on to further Oscar, BAFTA and BIFA success. 2013 LIM Award Winner ‘Parvaneh’ and Northern Ireland film ‘Boogaloo and Graham’ were nominated in the Short Film category at the Oscars. Best animation winner at Foyle Film Festival ‘The Dam Keeper’ was also nominated in the Short animation category at the 2014 Academy Awards.

Previous winners and competitors at Foyle Film Festival’s Light in Motion Awards who have proceeded to win an Oscar include Terry George (‘The Shore’), Martin McDonagh (‘Six Shooter’) and Adam Elliot (‘Harvie Krumpet’).

Competition Manager Eavan King said: ‘Foyle Film Festival had a really successful year of winners and competitors going on to further success in both Oscar and BAFTA competition. The big success story from Northern Ireland was of course ‘Boogaloo and Graham’ which received a special commendation at Foyle and two winners at Foyle ‘Parvaneh’ and ‘The Dam Keeper’ also secured Oscar nominations.’

‘It’s a sign that the film industry here is going from strength to strength and a welcome recognition of the calibre of filmmaking from the region when Northern Ireland features quite frequently on award shortlists. Foyle Film Festival is delighted as always to play an ongoing role in this process.’

The four competition categories at Foyle Film Festival:

  • Best International Short
  • Best Irish Short
  • Best Short Animation
  • Best Feature Documentary

All entries for the 2015 Festival must be submitted through affiliated website, Withoutabox: www.withoutabox.com/login/1733. The cost of submission is £40 for non-withoutabox members and £35 for withoutabox members.

Entries shortlisted for each category will be screened during this year’s Festival which will take place from Wednesday 18 November to Sunday 22nd November 2015.
