Irish Casting Round-Up
24 Jun 2014 : Deirdre Molumby
Irish actors Ardal O’Hanlon, Jason O’Mara and Glenn Keogh have been lined up to take on prominent roles on both the big and small screen.

Ardal O’Hanlon, best-known as Father Dougal in the 1990s hit comedy series ‘Father Ted’, has been cast in a new Sky1 series called ‘After Hours’. The series will follow the life of Willow Hannigan, an 18 year-old music lover who’s just had his heart broken for the first time and who loves listening to local internet radio show ‘After Hours’, which is run from a canal boat by two friends.

O’Hanlon, who will play Willow’s father, Peter, stated: “I'm delighted to be a part of ‘After Hours’. It’s warm, funny and moving and the soundtrack is amazing.” Actors James Tarpey, Georgina Campbell, Fergus Van Gelder, Jamie Winstone, Rob Kendrick, Susan Cookson and John Thomson will join O’Hanlon on the new sitcom, which is filming now and due to air in 2015.

Jason O’Mara, meanwhile, has also secured a major small screen role. Born and raised in Dublin, O’Mara has starred in a number of TV productions, including ‘The Bill’, ‘Life on Mars’, ‘Your Bad Self’, ‘Vegas’ and ‘The Good Wife’, and in film roles opposite Katherine Heigl in ‘One for the Money’ and Milla Jovovich in ‘Resident Evil: Extinction’.

Most recently, the Irish actor signed up to play George Washington in a new History Channel miniseries called ‘Sons of Liberty’. The series depicts the American Revolution and co-stars ‘Breaking Bad’'s Dean Norris as Benjamin Franklin, Ben Barnes as Sam Adams, Henry Thomas as John Adams and Rafe Spall as John Hancock. Filming and production has already begun in Romania.

Additionally, Glenn Keogh, who is based in LA but hails from Blackrock, will be appearing in episodes of Showtime’s hit drama series ‘Ray Donovan’. Keogh will also feature in a recurring role on NBC’s long-running daytime drama, ‘Days of Our Lives’, beginning this August. This autumn, Keogh is set to appear in a new CBS drama series, ‘Scorpion’.

The actor can next be seen on the big screen as he stars in Michael Bay’s sci-fi blockbuster ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction.’ He stars opposite Mark Wahlberg and fellow Irish actor Jack Reynor in the film. Keogh stated: “I was thrilled and honoured to have the opportunity to be part of this amazing juggernaut, with such an incredible array of talent, led by the genius that is Michael Bay.”
