The 22nd Movieguide Faith & Values Awards took place on February 7th at the Hilton Universal Hotel. The biggest winners of the night included ‘The Bible’ as well as ‘Duck Dynasty’ and ‘Tiger Tank’.
Movieguide is ‘an international family guide to movies and entertainment.’ Organized by Movieguide founder and publisher Ted Baehr, the Faith & Values Awards reward spiritual seriousness in Hollywood by analysing films and TV shows according to biblical theology as well as negative factors, meaning worldviews that are pagan, occult, humanist or derived from Jean-Jacques Rousseau, a Genevan philosopher.
The Derry-born Roma Downey (‘Touched by an Angel’) received the Grace Award in the Television, Actress category at the ceremony. She played Mother Mary in the series based on the events of the Bible from the creation of Earth to the crucifixion of Jesus.
Downey was executive producer of the TV mini-series along with her husband, Mark Burnett, who produced the show through their company LightWorkers Media. ‘The Bible’ also received the $100,000 Epiphany Prize for Most Inspiring Television Program of 2013.
Downey expressed gratitude at the Movieguide ceremony, saying “I just find it so encouraging that all of the things that we hold near and dear are given a moment in the spotlight where the community can come together and celebrate faith, family values, all the things that are important but don't necessarily get the red carpet treatment.”
‘The Bible’ was also nominated for three Primetime Emmy awards. It was popular on the History Channel in the USA and aired on TV3 last Christmas.
‘The Bible’ has also been adapted into a feature film called ‘Son of God’. Released by Twentieth Century Fox, the movie will have a nationwide release on February 28th.
