‘Shadow Dancer,' ‘Grabbers’ and ‘Anton Corbijn: Inside Out’ Representing Irish Film at Edinburgh Festival

Three Irish films have been officially selected for this month’s Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF).

‘Shadow Dancer, ‘Grabbers’ and ‘Anton Corbijn: Inside Out’ have all been selected to screen at the June festival following successful screenings at Cannes earlier this month.

Oscar-winner James Marsh’s ‘Shadow Dancer’ is set in 1990’s Belfast, and is centred around an IRA member who turns informant for MI5 to protect her son. Tom Bradby wrote the thriller, in which Irish actors Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones) and Domhnall Gleeson (Sensation), British actor Clive Owen (Derailed) and American actress Gillian Anderson (The Last King of Scotland) starred. Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe produced for Element Pictures, with Unanimous Entertainment and Wild Bunch Productions.

‘Grabbers’ is a monster-based comedy which stars Irish actors Ruth Bradley (Titanic) and Bronagh Gallagher (Pram Face), and British actors Richard Coyle (W.E.) and Russell Tovey (Sherlock). It shows squid-like creatures invade a rural Irish village, leading its residents and local police force to protect the village and themselves. It was directed by Jon Wright and produced by Samson Films in Dublin with Forward Films in the UK.

‘Anton Corbijn: Inside Out’ is a documentary which follows Dutch photographer and filmmaker Corbijn as he works with some of the most successful musicians in the world, including Ireland’s U2, Metallica, Lou Reed and Depeche Mode. Dublin’s Fastnet Films co-produced with LEV Pictures and Savage Film. Klaartje Quirijns directed the documentary over two years.

All three films previously screened at marketplace at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this month. The Irish Film Board (IFB) helped fund all three productions.

The EIFF takes place from June 20-July 1.
