Telegael is one of several Irish exhibitors that has been showcasing at MIPTV 2017 in Cannes this week from 3-6 April. Production companies from around the world will be in attendance bringing an attractive slate of their programmes to spring's largest global TV & online distribution market and leading content development event.

Telegael is one of Europe’s leading animation and television studios working with international producers, distributors and broadcasters to develop, finance and co-produce animation and live-action content for the global market.

Programmes taken over to Cannes this year on Telegaels slate include Ireland's first stop-motion animated feature film Captain Morten & The Spider Queen and the Irish crime drama Jack Taylor based on the Ken Bruen novel series.

As Ireland's first stop-motion animated feature film Captain Morten & The Spider Queen features an all-star Irish cast of voice talents including Brendan Gleeson, Ciarán Hinds, Pauline McLynn, Tommy Tiernan,  Jason Byrne, Neil Delamere, Mario Rosenstock, Michael McElhatton and more.

Directed by Kaspar Jancis and Henry Nicholson, the 75-minute stop-motion animation tells the story of Morten voiced by Cian O’Dowd a dreamy, 10-year-old boy who whiles away his days fantasising about captaining his own ship and trying to avoid the anger of his devious and reluctant guardian the mean spinster Anna (Pauline McLynn).

Morten’s fantasising distracts him from missing his father Captain Viks (Brendan Gleeson), who is away at sea. Morten aspires to be a captain someday, just like his dad. After a chance meeting with the mysterious and inept magician Senór Cucaracha (Tommy Tiernan), Morten is magically shrunken down to the size of an insect and trapped aboard the deck of his own toy-ship.

With a wicked Spider Queen and Scorpion Pirate already aboard, Morten must take back control of his ship which is caught up in a threatening storm. Engaging the help of a beautiful butterfly-friend Eliza (Susie Power), Morten adventure shows that being Captain is going to be anything but child’s play.

Captain Morten & The Spider Queen is a co-production between Telegael (Ireland), Nukufilm (Estonia) and Grid-VFX (Belgium) in association with Calon of Wales. The project previously attracted significant interest from European and US distributors at Cartoon Movie 2016 in Lyon.

Jack Taylor is the highly acclaimed Irish detective series based on the Ken Bruen novels it is set in Galway and filmed in and around Galway City.

Telegael informed IFTN this week that the latest episode of Jack Taylor broadcast on the ZDF channel in Germany this week attracted an audience of 3 million viewers when it aired. This news displays the strength and success the Irish programme has to offer to a wider audience on an international scope.

Produced by Christine O’Connor the program features Iain Glen (Game of Thrones, Resident Evil, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider) in the eponymous role of Jack Taylor. A former officer with the Garda Síochána he becomes a private investigator after leaving the service.  A dark character of sorts who knows the streets of his hometown like the back of his hand, Jack looks for clues others may have overlooked in this crime/thriller genre series

Established in 1988, Telegael the multi-Emmy® and IFTA award winning studio is one of Europe’s leading animation and television production houses which works with international producers, distributors and broadcasters to develop, finance and co-produce animation and live-action content for the global market.
