Following the film’s successful world premiere in Austin, Texas over the weekend, SXSW Film Festival has announced that ‘Extra Ordinary’ has been selected for an additional ‘BUZZ’ screening on Friday, March 15th.

Written and directed by Mike Ahern and Enda Loughman, ‘Extra Ordinary’ is the debut feature film from the directing duo, which featured in the Narrative Spotlight section of the film festival. Starring Irish comedian Maeve Higgins (‘Moone Boy’), Barry Ward (‘Taken Down’) and Will Forte (‘Nebraska’), the film also boasts a strong Irish supporting cast of Siobhan McSweeney (‘Derry Girls’), Risteard Cooper (‘Apres Match’), Alison Spittle (‘Nowhere Fast’), Mary McEvoy (‘Glenroe’) and Jamie Beamish (‘Derry Girls’).

Speaking about the news, Writer/Directors Mike Ahern and Enda Loughman told IFTN:

“Other screenings sold out so we are really delighted that the SXSW festival decided to give the film an extra ‘Buzz’ screening! We got to attend a number of the screenings and SXSW audiences were brilliant, very loud and boisterous which is what we hoped for, especially so in the last act of the film. We love people to see it on a big screen and with a crowd and this will give the Austin audience one last chance, yay!”

‘Extra Ordinary’ follows the story of Rose, a sweet, lonely driving instructor in rural Ireland, who is gifted with supernatural abilities. Rose has a love/hate relationship with her ‘talents’ & tries to ignore the constant spirit related requests from locals - to exorcise possessed rubbish bins or haunted gravel. But! Christian Winter, a washed up, one-hit-wonder rock star, has made a pact with the devil for a return to greatness! He puts a spell on a local teenager- making her levitate. Her terrified father, Martin Martin, asks Rose to help save his daughter. Rose has to overcome the fear of her supernatural gift & work with Martin to save the girl, get the guy and be home in time for a light snack...maybe a yogurt or something...

Filmed on location in Kildare, Tullamore and Wicklow last year, ‘Extra Ordinary’ is produced by Blinder Films’ Katie Holly (‘Love & Friendship’), Yvonne Donohoe (‘Striking Out’), Ailish Bracken (‘The Lodgers’) and Mary McCarthy (‘The Delinquent Season’). The film is made in association with Umedia who also funded the project alongside Screen Ireland and Inevitable Pictures.

Wildcard Distribution will handle the film, which is expected to release in Ireland later this year.
