The prolific U.S cable channel has ordered 'Y: The Last Man' to series only two months after the channel first formally announced its plans to make a pilot adaptation of the acclaimed graphic novel.

Irish actor Barry Keoghan was announced as the lead in July when FX officially unveiled the leading cast. Keoghan (‘Dunkirk’, ‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer’) is set to star alongside Diane Lane (‘Under the Tuscan Sun’), Imogen Poots (‘Green Room’), Lashana Lynch (‘Captain Marvel’), Juliana Canfield (‘Succession’), and Marin Ireland (‘Sneaky Pete’).

Michael Green and Aïda Mashaka Croal will serve as showrunners which is based on Brian K. Vaughan & Pia Guarra’s DC comic book series of the same name, whilst Vaughan will also act as an executive producer on the project. The series traverses a post-apocalyptic world in which a cataclysmic event has decimated every male mammal save for one lone human. The new world order of women will explore gender, race, class and survival.

Keoghan will assume the role Yorick Brown, the main character from the graphic novels on which the show is based. He is described as a young man quick to use humour to deflect from his problems, and who may be the lone male survivor of a worldwide plague.

The Dublin native first came to prominence in Irish crime drama series ‘Love/Hate’ and has since featured in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dunkirk’ & Yorgos Lanthimos’ ‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer’ alongside actors such as Cillian Murphy, Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, and Mark Rylance. Keoghan picked up his first IFTA for ‘Best actor in a supporting role – Film’ at the 2018 IFTA Film & Drama Awards. Keoghan was recently nominated for the BAFTA Rising Star Award at the upcoming ceremony and was also named in The Hollywood Reporter's list of television rising stars in 2018.

Following the news, the 26 year old took to twitter with the simple caption: “#YTheLastMan COMING SOON..."

Deadline reports that the show is slated to premiere in 2020.
