Deadpan Pictures's hit comedy drama 'Can't Cope Won't Cope' returns this week on RTE
23 Apr 2018 :
The 6-part half-hour series is written by Stefanie Preissner (Solpadine is my Boyfriend), produced by Ailish McElmeel (Nowhere Fast/Halal Daddy) and directed by Imogen Murphy (Redrock) who takes the reins for season 2.

It stars the magnetic talent of Seana Kerslake (A Date for Mad Mary) and Nika McGuigan (Traders) in the lead roles.

Can’t Cope Won’t Cope Series 2 sees Aisling and Danielle struggling with the new normality of being apart. We meet Aisling after she’s had her soul sucked out of her by Mallow town for an entire summer. She has a job in a local financial establishment, but in typical Aisling style she throws in the towel at the first signs of trouble. Meanwhile in Vancouver, Danielle is really struggling. There is no-one at her side to roll her eyes at when the super politically correct art school culture in Vancouver starts grating on her. Series 2 gives Aisling and Danielle all of the opportunities to get where they want to go… if only they could make better decisions.

Writer Stefanie told IFTN:

"I wrote season one of Can’t Cope Won’t Cope in 2014/15. It was a different Ireland. It’s important to me that the show feels fresh and relevant. Season 2 tackles contemporaneous issues that face Ireland in 2018 – housing crisis, women's rights, the gig economy, the urban/rural divide while also confronting the show's native themes of friendship, growing up, and the struggle to individuate from your identifying relationships."

Producer Ailish McElmeel said:

“We’re delighted to bring Can’t Cope Won’t Cope back to Irish audiences. Having sold series one to BBC in the UK, First Look Media in US and Canada among others, we look forward to bringing series 2 to even more international audiences”.

The series is commissioned by RTE 2 with the support of BAI, Section 481 and with Kew Media representing international rights.

Director Imogen Murphy added:

It’s a pleasure to direct for Deadpan Pictures who consistently produce some of the best in Irish comedy drama. Can’t Cope Won’t Cope has a superb cast this season with returning stars like Seana Kerslake and Nika McGuigan, and some exciting new arrivals.”
