RTÉ YPP Call for Ideas
07 Jun 2017 :
RTÉ YPP have issued a commissioning brief for several slots and project types, with deadlines through July.

RTÉ looks for content which reflects the world in which young people in Ireland are growing up, and which has the capacity to engage fully with its target audience. Diverse styles and approaches are welcome and it is likely that projects will have applications or potential across more than one platform. Essential for all proposals is a clear understanding of the proposed target audience and their needs, and the potential to bring something original, innovative and exciting to our audience.
Of particular interest to us at this time are co-productions with broadcasters or content producers in other countries. These should deliver material reflective of and relevant to youngsters living in Ireland in a way that is cost-effective to RTÉ.

Original commissions provide highlights in our mixed schedules for young people. We are interested in innovative production models, original onscreen/online style and diverse approaches to storytelling in concepts which explore or reflect the lives of youngsters growing up in Ireland today. Co-productions on proposals which will contain a strong Irish component and provide our audience with good value-for-money content are particularly welcome. Given the profile of our audience every proposal should have an original complementary cross-platform component or dimension. As we are unlikely to commission a subject area already in the schedule, we highly recommend you familiarise yourself with our output before finalising your idea or proposal.

RTÉjr is looking for original programme ideas to supplement the growing number of strands made especially for the under-7s. In 2014, in a new departure, RTÉjr enjoyed great success with engaging observational documentary series Our Farm which followed the day to day pursuits of the young Doyle family in Co. Mayo and Zara World which featured an inner city Dublin family. Wildlife challenge strands Shutterbugs and Bug Hunters brought outdoor adventure, photography and nature and What's Your Game? saw Munster rugby legend Donncha O'Callaghan learn sports from very young enthusiasts. In studio-based entertainment formats both The Beo Show and The Curious World of Professor Fun and Dr. Dull have seen great success and engagement with the junior audience, largely down to the big characters at the centre of each format.
