Rebecca O’Flanagan of Treasure Entertainment produced the comedy, written by Eugene O’Brien (Pure Mule) and directed by Declan Recks (The Truth Commissioner).
IFTA-winning cinematographer Cathal Watters (Viva) is also part of ‘The Flag’ team, with Irish talents Moe Dunford, Ruth Bradley and Brian Gleeson starring alongside Shortt.
The film sees Harry Hambridge (Shortt) attempts to reprise the Irish flag raised over the GPO by his grandfather during the 1916 rising. The only issue, as the hapless Hambridge discovers, is that it now hangs upside-down in an English army barracks.
The project received €550,000 in production funding from the Irish Film Board in Q4 of 2015 and a further €17,000 in Q2 of 2016. It was also backed by both BAI and RTÉ.
