The BAFTA-nominated series is set to return to the small screen with Northern Irish actor Adrian Dunbar returning as Superintendent Ted Hastings.
Cait Collins (The Lobster) is set to produce, with the first three episodes directed by Alex Winkler and the second by John Strickland.
The executive producers are Jed Mercurio and Simon Heath of World Productions, and Stephen Wright for BBC Northern Ireland. ‘Line of duty’ received funding from the Northern Ireland Screen Fund supported by Invest NI.
The latest instalment of the series sees anti-corruption unit AC-12 take on the case of Operation Trapdoor. English actress Thandie Newton is set to join the cast this year as antagonist DCI Roz Huntley.
On joining the BBC One series, Newton states, “I watched the last three seasons of Line of Duty with breathless admiration for its creators, both behind and in front of the camera. I couldn't be more thrilled to be joining them now.”
Executive Producer Jed Mercurio has expressed his thanks to the BBC Drama Team, and adds, “I’m grateful for the opportunity to create a brand-new thriller series for the BBC and looking forward to continuing my collaboration with Simon Heath and Priscilla Parish at World Productions and Stephen Wright at BBC Northern Ireland.”
