History officially renews ‘Vikings’ for fourth season

The first three series of ‘Vikings’ were shot in Co. Wicklow with production in Luggala and Ashford Studios
‘Vikings’ has officially been renewed for a fourth season by US broadcaster History.

Five episodes into its’ third season in America – which wrapped production in Ireland in November - History have decided to renew their first ever scripted television series. For the first five episodes of Season 3, ‘Vikings’ is averaging 4.3 million total viewers, 2.2 million adults 25-54 and 2.0 million adults 18-49 in Live+3, ranking as the No. 1 cable series on Thursday nights in all key demos.

Production on Season four will begin in late April and is expected to run until December – with the producers announcing last week that they needed a minimum of 8000 extras for the fourth season of the show.

‘Vikings’ is produced by World 2000 Entertainment, Take 5 Productions and MGM Television in association with Shaw Media and with funding from the Irish Film Board. The creator-writer of ‘Vikings’, Michael Hirst, executive produces the series with Irish producer Morgan O’Sullivan.

The first three series of ‘Vikings’ were shot in Co. Wicklow with production in Luggala and Ashford Studios. There were approximately 400 Irish people involved in the production of the series. A number of key Irish professionals involved in the production included director Ciarán Donnelly, costume designer Joan Bergin, production designer Tom Conroy and cinematographer PJ Dillon, who received an ASC Award nomination for his work on the show.
