Young people in Northern Ireland are being offered a unique opportunity to bring their story ideas to life on screen with the launch of BBC Northern Ireland’s ‘True North Shorts’ project.
Now in its third series, ‘True North’ is the BBC’s documentary strand for Northern Ireland, providing a platform for leading film-makers to showcase cutting-edge films which reflect life in modern times.
‘True North Shorts’ is a search for original, inspiring ideas about contemporary life in Northern Ireland that will result in young people aged 17-25 making five short documentaries with the support of a BBC production team and camera crew.
Ideas should bring true emotion to life, telling stories of family, home, landscape and relationships that make up the modern mix of Northern Ireland. The five minute documentaries will feature on BBC platforms from autumn 2015.
The young people taking part in this project will work with industry professionals to develop their programme making skills and employability across the creative sector.
Executive Producer Justin Binding added “‘True North’ is a vital strand to BBCNI that allows us to document contemporary Northern Ireland in all its textures and qualities; young film-makers are the creative life-blood of this place and through ‘True North Shorts’ we are giving ownership of the strand to the documentary film-makers and directors of the future. A contemporary strand that reflects modern times must give voice to all outer reaches of society but none more so that the young.”
