London VFX Firm Nvizible to open Studio in Belfast
02 Apr 2014 : Deirdre Molumby
Nvizible Belfast is currently working on 'Our Robot Overlords'
Nvizible, a London visual effects company, intends to expand by launching Nvizible Belfast, to be headed by Victoria Farley. Former Head of Production Kris Wright has been promoted to Managing Director, with Nic Hatch as Chairman, as part of the expansion. Hatch drove the move to Belfast as he “recognised it as an area of growth in the film industry with a shortage of VFX.”

Wright stated, “In tandem with this growth of VFX in Belfast we are going to nurture a talent pool of local artists to work on these shows. This is something young, aspiring VFX artists in Northern Ireland have never had the chance to do before.”

Nvizible Belfast is already working on a production called ‘Our Robot Overlords’, an Embankment Films production that is also being handled by and worked on in collaboration with the London office. Nvizible will be providing all VFX, including fully CG animated robots, flying vehicles, a spitfire plane, environments and explosions.

Sister companies Nvizage and Ncam are also involved in the production. The film was shot in Northern Ireland last summer and stars Gillian Anderson of IFTA nominee ‘The Fall’ and Sir Ben Kingsley (‘Schindler’s List’, ‘Hugo’).

Nvizible launched in 2009. Recently, the film provided all VFX on ‘Kick-Ass 2’. It also completed work on ‘Gravity’, ‘Captain Phillips’, ‘Carrie’, ‘I Give It a Year’ and ‘Muppets Most Wanted’.

As well as ‘Our Robot Overlords’, projects currently in development include Stephen Daldry’s ‘Trash’ for Working Title, starring Rooney Mara and Martin Sheen; a Tom Cruise action film called ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ for Warner Bros; and Matthew Vaughn’s ‘The Secret Service’ for Marv Films.

A great deal of movement in production is highly-anticipated in Northern Ireland, between this new development as well as the confirmation of Northern Ireland Screen’s ‘Opening Doors’ scheme, a £43m plan which aims to attract more ‘Game of Thrones’-sized productions to the country.
