Stuart Murphy named new director of Sky entertainment channels…Having delivered the inaugural IFTA Television Lecture in Dublin last December, Stuart Murphy has been promoted to director of Sky entertainment channels. Murphy, who has been with BSkyB since 2009 when he was put in charge of Sky 1, will now oversee Sky Atlantic, Sky Living and Sky Arts. The directors of each channel will report directly to him. He continues to report to Sophie Turner Laing, Sky managing director of entertainment, news and broadcast operations. Read an interview with Murphy from last December here.
Summit International co-founder launches Mister Smith Entertainment… Former Summit International president David Garrett has launched his new London-based sales company Mister Smith Entertainment, a joint venture with German production and distribution outfit Constantin Film, reports Screendaily. The new venture will finance, co-finance and license “high quality mainstream films and filmmaker driven movies for the global market.” One of Mister Smith Entertainment’s first titles includes ‘3,096 Days’, based on the autobiography of Natascha Kampusch, the Austrian girl held captive for more than eight years. The film will star Irish actress Antonia Campbell-Hughes.
Sundance London may not return…. Robert Redford’s Sundance London will await feedback and reviews before deciding on whether or not it will return to London next year for a second outing, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This year’s four day event concluded last Sunday and boasted a mix of music and movies. The festival included 14 UK premieres.
