Today’s Daily Bite includes YouTube’s call to producers to pitch ideas for their UK original channels series as well as the opening of a new state-of-the-art studio outside of London.
YouTube urging producers to pitch for €12m content deals…. YouTube has revealed its UK content strategy and is urging producers to pitch niche ideas as it seeks to invest in excess of €12m (£10m) into new productions, according to Broadcast. The Google-owned video-sharing site will advance producers around €615,000 (£500,000) a year to become part of its Original Channels strategy, and plans to launch “tens of channels”. An initial pitch process is to shortly take place in a bid to greenlight channels that target audiences in areas such as fashion, sport, music and news. It is not known yet if Google will offer such channels to Irish viewers.
Blank Hanger Studios opens in the UK…. A new 32,000-square-foot state-of-the-art studio has opened about a 40-minute train ride outside of London, reports Deadline. Blank Hanger Studios is located in Basingstoke and is the latest in a line of new UK studios, with the country heavily investing in its studio infrastructure. In June, Warner Bros will re-open Leavesdon studios, a 500,000-square-foot facility 20 minutes from central London in which they have invested £100m. Among Black Hangar’s prime features is a 5,000-square-foot outdoor water tank recently used for British indie hit ‘Salmon Fishing In The Yemen’.
Avengers Assemble on-course to smash box-office records… Having taken €215 at the international box office since opening last weekend, ‘Avengers Assemble’ is on course to smash all box office records after opening in the US last night. It is widely predicted to take in excess of €114m over its opening weekend to officially kick-off the summer blockbuster season.
