‘Red Rock’ S02 acquired by BBC
05 Sep 2016 :
Following a successful summer run, the second season of TV3’s award-winning drama series 'Red Rock' has been acquired by the BBC.

The second season, which includes episodes 81 through to 160, will air to UK audiences next year.

Following its launch on TV3 in January 2015, the hit series has gone from strength to strength and has also been sold to Amazon Prime in the US (where 81% of viewers give it 5 stars).

The show premiered on BBC One on 11th July to a consolidated audience of 1.3million, making it an instant hit and one of Ireland’s most successful television exports.

‘Red Rock’ is commissioned by TV3, part of the Virgin Media Group and was acquired by the BBC via All3Media International. The drama is executive produced by Ed Guiney of Element Pictures and John Yorke of Angel Station (previously Company Pictures).

Set around a busy police precinct in a fictional seaside town just outside of Dublin, Red Rock follows the Hennessys and the Kielys, two local warring families and the police that come between them.

Dan McGolpin, Controller of BBC Daytime:
“I’m thrilled that Red Rock has gone down so well with our audience and very pleased to say that it will return to BBC Daytime next year.”

The news follows TV3’s autumn schedule launch, which was held at The National Concert Hall last Wednesday.

Pat Kiely, TV3 Group Managing Director:
“The decision by the BBC to acquire Red Rock for another series is a huge vote of confidence in the show and in TV3. It is also great recognition for the hugely talented production team, cast and crew.”

John Yorke, Executive Producer of ‘Red Rock’:
“Launching a brand new soap in this day and age requires a huge amount of bravery from any broadcaster, so we’ve been thrilled by how the BBC have gotten so behind us, and that it’s gone down so well. There are loads of twists and turns to come, so we can’t wait for British audiences to join us again next year.”

‘Red Rock’ returns to TV3 screens next Monday, September 12th in a new hour-long 9.30pm slot.
