Irish Audiovisual Industry has received €3.66 million from Creative Europe since programme launch in 2014
15 Dec 2015 : Seán Brosnan
The MEDIA Office of Creative Europe Desk Ireland has announced that Irish audiovisual companies have been awarded more than €3.66 million since the beginning of 2014 when the Creative Europe Programme was launched.

The results are detailed in the Creative Europe Ireland MEDIA Review which was launched at the BAI sponsored MEDIA Industry Breakfast on Tuesday, 8th December. The results cover a broad range of creative industries including film, television, gaming and animation.

Speaking at the event, Alan Fitzpatrick, Chair of the Creative Europe Desk Ireland welcomed the results as “an important and valuable addition” to the domestic sources of funding available to support the audiovisual industry in Ireland and noted that the figures represented a strong showing for Irish creative industries.

The Creative Europe Desk also used the Industry Breakfast to formally announce that Siobhan O’Donoghue has stepped down from her position as CEO. Siobhan had been at the helm of the organisation since its foundation in 1992, when it was previously known as the MEDIA Desk Ireland.

Speaking on behalf of the Board of CEDI, Alan Fitzpatrick paid tribute to the twenty two year career Siobhan held as its CEO, noting that the “results announced today would not have been possible without the considerable hard work and dedication shown by Ms. O’Donoghue over the past two decades”.

Speaking of her time with the MEDIA Desk, Siobhan has said “It has been a privilege to work with the MEDIA Desk, the EU MEDIA Programme and the Irish Industry.”

Orla Clancy who has worked as Project Manager at the organisation since 2009 will now assume the role of leading the organisation through the Creative Europe Programme.

Speaking about the Irish successes through the programme at the event, Orla Clancy said: “Irish companies have done exceptionally well since the start of MEDIA in 1992 with €38 million awarded to date - €3.66 million within the last 2 years alone through Creative Europe. This is a very strong performance by Ireland under the Creative Europe programme from both established and new companies with very strong and engaging projects.”

She continued: “2016 will be a significant year for Creative Europe. We will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of MEDIA and we will also see the launch of the financial Guarantee facility for the Cultural and Creative Sectors. We look forward to building on the strong results that Ireland has achieved by continuing to work closely with companies both new and established and ensure that the Industry is keenly aware of all that Creative Europe has to offer.”
