Irish Language Broadcast Fund announce latest funding decisions

One further funding round this year, with the deadline for applications being Friday, 4th September
Following the recent meeting of the Investment Committee of the ILBF, the Irish Language Broadcast Fund announced its latest funding decisions.

Awards were made across a wide genre of programming, including documentaries, young people’s, factual entertainment, lifestyle series and multi-platform content.

The ILBF has awarded funding to Clean Slate Television to produce an observational documentary series on the renowned Armagh Pipers. ‘Piobairí Ard Mhacha’ will be broadcast on BBC NI.

The travels of Alan Lomax, the great field collector of folk music, throughout Ireland will be examined in a documentary for TG4. ‘Lomax in Éirinn: The Album That Saved Irish Music’ will be produced by Aisling Productions.

Following on from the success of series one, Doubleband will embark on a second series of ‘Ar Scáth na Sléibhte’, in which presenter Cormac Ó hAdhmaill will continue to explore the mountains of Ulster.

Below the Radar was awarded funding for a third series of lively magazine show ‘I Lár an Aonaigh’. The Meon Eile multimedia platform will also be returning.

Big Mountain Productions will produce a fourth series of ‘Opry an Iúir’ for BBC NI and TG4. Big Mountain was also awarded funding for a new observational documentary series charting the lives of students as they embark on teacher training at St Mary’s University College, Belfast. ‘Múinteoirí’ will be broadcast on BBC NI.

Indee Productions has been awarded funding for ‘Timpeall an Tábla’, a documentary that will feature a wide variety of stories from everyday people. Indee was also awarded funding for a wildlife series aimed at the 8-12 age group. ‘Na Dúlradóirí’ will air on TG4.

Macha Media will produce ‘Ar Mo Bhealach Féin’, a travelogue series charting the story of the Ulster Gaelic novelist, Seosamh Mac Grianna and his odyssey through the villages and mountains of Wales. Macha Media has also been awarded funding for ‘Idir Mise agus Tusa’, a series of ten ‘agallamh beirte’ in which Bunscoil students in Rang 7 will learn, audition, rehearse and perform 10 newly composed recitations which will then be accessible on the Meon Eile website.

Imagine Media has been awarded funding for a second series of ‘Ar Bhealach na Gaeltachta’ in which Frainc Mac Cionnaith will explore the lesser known Gaeltacht paths of Donegal. Imagine Media will also co-produce ‘Crá sa Chré’, with Park Films, a factual series that looks at our nation through the subject of boundaries.

Máiréad Ní Chuaig and Gavin Ó Fearraigh will also return for a second series of ‘Wwoofáil Australia’ which will be produced for TG4 by Stirling Productions.

There will be one further funding round this year, with the deadline for applications being Friday, 4th September.
