Galway Film Centre offers Short Film Script Award
08 Apr 2014 : Deirdre Molumby
The Galway Film Centre, in association with RTÉ, has announced its annual competition for the best film script, which will grant two awards of €9500 for the two winners to fund their short films. The competition is now open for 2014, with a few extra conditions added this year.

First, a producer must be attached to any project submitted. Secondly, scripts must be of a maximum of 10 pages in length. Only one script pre writer will be accepted. Application forms are available from info@galwayfilmcentre.ie

All applications will require both hard and soft copies of the script (which should be as close to a final draft as possible), and CVs of the writer, producer and director, as well as the completed application form. The deadline is 12pm Friday May 9th, with those who have been short-listed contacted approximately 8 weeks after the closing date.

The best scripts are to be short-listed for interview, which the director, producer and writer must all attend to present the proposed core team to deliver the short film, and two winners are awarded the prize money. €9000 of the award goes towards production costs while €500 is used to hire the services of a script supervisor (selected by the Galway Film Centre) to work with the writers.

In addition to the prize money, the successful production team are also given the use of equipment and facilities from the Galway Film Centre and a commitment from RTÉ to screen the finished film. The winning script-writer works with the assistance of a professional script editor to finalise and clean up the script before shooting.

Past winners of the award have included ‘The Weather Report’, ‘Scratch’, and award-winning short ‘The Ten Steps’, directed by Brendan Muldowney (‘Savage’, ‘Love Eternal’).
