The Irish Film Board has announced the latest three ‘Reality Bites’ teams which have been awarded funding for their projects.

This short documentary scheme aims to encourage experimentation and a fresh approach to short non-fiction documentary filmmaking - whether the projects are journalistic or creative, observational or aesthetic, objective or personal.

The following three teams have been awarded funding for their projects: ‘Breaking News’, ‘Cold Hands, Warm Heart’ and ‘7th Daughter of a 7th Daughter’.

‘Breaking News’, for Areaman Productions, will be directed by Paul Quinn and Tom Burke, written by Paul Quinn, and produced by Shane Hogan.

This character-based documentary explores the personal stories of the newspaper vendors of Dublin's streets, who remain anonymous as we pass by.

‘Cold Hands, Warm Heart’ is a Beochan production and will be produced by Heather Mills (‘Niko 2: Little Brother, Big Trouble’ and ‘Igam Ogam 2’), directed by Ben Jones (‘City Slackers’) and written by Jason Kane.

This film looks back at the GAA sport of handball, against the backdrop of the creation and subsequent dereliction of countless outdoor alleys in both urban and rural Ireland.

’7th Daughter of a 7th Daughter’ is a Zucca Films production which will be written and directed by Narayan Van Maele (‘Dawn of a New Day’) and produced by Nodlag Houlihan (‘Alia’, ‘Blue Rinse’).

This observational documentary follows Agnes Padden, a seventh daughter of a seventh daughter who has the power to cure ringworm and several skin disorders, and captures the fading Irish tradition of "The Cure".

The Reality Bites shorts are funded by The Irish Film Board and are set to premiere at IFI Stranger Than Fiction 2015.
