Three Irish productions have been named in the programme for the upcoming Edinburgh International Film Festival, taking place next month between 19th and 30th June.

Paul Duane's new documentary ‘Best Before Death’ will make its World Premiere in the documentary strand, while  Director Mary McGuckian’s drama ‘A Girl From Mogadishu’ will receive its International Premiere as part of the European Perspectives strand, alongside Alexandra McGuinness' ‘She's Missing’.

McGuinness’ US-based thriller recently secured a North American release with Vertical Entertainment while screening to buyers at Cannes earlier this month.

This year the Festival will screen around 121 new features, including 18 feature film World Premieres, 12 International Premieres, 8 European Premieres, and 78 UK Premieres from 42 countries across the globe.

Based on the testimony of Ifrah Ahmed, ‘A Girl From Mogadishu’ tells the story of Ifrah's astonishing and powerful journey to the global stage as one of the world’s foremost activists against Female Genital Mutilation. Starring Irish actors Orla Brady (‘The Foreigner’), Stanley Townsend (‘Florence Foster Jenkins’) and Pauline McLynn (‘Father Ted’), the film boasts an impressive cast including Aja Naomi (‘How to Get Away With Murder’, ‘The Upside‘) as Ifrah Ahmed and Oscar nominee Barkhad Abdi (‘Captain Philips’). McGuckian also produced the film alongside Adrian Politowski under her production company Pembridge Pictures.

Also selected as part of the European Perspectives strand is the International Premiere of ‘She’s Missing’ from Irish writer-director Alexandra McGuinness, which tells the story of a young woman, Heidi, whose best friend goes missing at a rodeo after meeting a mysterious man.  The film boasts a star-studded cast including Lucy Fry (‘Bright’), Eliza Gonzalez (‘Baby Driver’), Josh Hartnett (‘Penny Dreadful’) and Christian Camargo (‘The Hurt Locker’).

Paul Duane's documentary ‘Best Before Death’, which follows the artist Bill Drummond over a two-year period during his ambitious 12-year world tour, will receive its World Premiere in the Documentary strand.

Each of the three projects premiering at the festival received funding support from Screen Ireland.

The Edinburgh International Film Festival begins next month and will run between the 19th and 30th June.

Tickets are available from Friday, May 31st at 10 am.
