The new documentary on sports legend George Best was was commissioned by BBC and is set to screen at Movie House, Dublin Road in conjunction with the Belfast Film Festival on Thursday February 16th.
This is followed by a screening at the Audi Dublin International Film Festival on Saturday, February 18th. It joins fellow Irish documentaries ‘In Loco Parentis’ (Neasa Ní Chianain, David Rane), ‘The Piano Lesson’ (Ken Wardrop), ‘Amanda Coogan: Long Now’ (Paddy Cahill) among others.
The film is also set to release in Ireland on Friday, February 24th.
The title directed by seasoned sports documentarist Daniel Gordon (Match 64’, The Fall) enjoyed its world premiere at the BFI London International Film Festival in October 2016. John Battsek (The Imposter) produced, marking another collaboration between the pair whose previous work includes Emmy-nominated ESPN Films’ documentary ‘Hillsborough’.
‘George Best: All By Himself) was produced by Trevor Birney, John Battsek and Brendan J. Byrne for Fine Point Films, Passion Pictures, VeryMuchSo Productions and ESPN Films, with support from Northern Ireland Screen and BBC Television.
Birney (Bobby Sands: 66 Days) and Gordon will attend both screenings for a post-screening Q&A discussion with attendees.
