'Song of the Sea'
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Baboró which runs from October 17th-23rd, and which sees Galway UNESCO showcase internationally acclaimed animated films such as ‘Song of the Sea’ and ‘The Long Way North’.

Oscar-nominated ‘Song of the Sea’ will screen at 10am, while ‘Long Way North’ will screen at 4pm on Monday October 17th. The former is directed by Irish talent Tomm Moore and will be screened as Gaeilge with English subtitles.

The animated feature follows siblings Ben and Saoirse as they journey across a fading world of ancient legend in an attempt to return to their home by the sea.

Moore also co-wrote the feature with Will Collins, who was nominated for an IFTA for Best Script – Film in 2015. The project is produced by Cartoon Saloon.

‘The Long Way North’ is set in 1882 and follows a young Russian aristocrat who travels to the North Pole to track down the ship of her adventurer grandfather. It is directed by Rémi Chayé and written by Claire Paoletti, Fabrice de Costil and Patricia Valeix.

Declan Gibbons, Director of Galway City of Film:
“Galway UNESCO City of Film are thrilled to be hosting film screenings as part of the fantastic Baboró festival this year. We are delighted to be presenting these two beautiful animated films to Galway’s young audiences and families alike.”

Aislinn Ó hEocha, Executive Artistic Director of Baboró International Arts Festival for Children:
