The Clones Film Festival opens on Thursday 22nd of October at 8pm in the Courthouse in Clones and runs until Sunday 25th of October.
Over the last number of years the festival has made a point of showcasing films which involve some of the local talent from the region, and this year is no exception. The festival will open with 'The Picnic', a bittersweet drama set in 1970s Dublin, starring Chiara Vennittilli an emerging actress from Redhills and directed by Ciaran Creagh of 'Parked' and 'The Note' fame.
In addition the Academy Award nominated and BAFTA winning comedy 'Boogaloo and Graham' will also be screened. The 1970s theme is continued but this time it’s a comedy set in Belfast starring acclaimed Monaghan actress Charlene McKenna and produced by Fermanagh-born Brian J Falconer. The film is directed by Michael Lennox.
Check out our interview with Michael Lennox earlier this year.
Producer Falconer and some cast and crew of both opening night short films will be in attendance – wine and refreshments will be served at the event which is free of charge.
Contrasting with the regional flavour of opening night, the festival also has a strong selection of critically acclaimed international films which will be screened over the four-day event.
These include 'Force Majeure', 'Marshland', 'The Tribe' and ‘The 'Salt of the Earth', directed by Ribeiro Salgado and Wim Wenders is a documentary about the life of the photojournalist and environmentalist Sebastian Salgado.
In addition to the packed line-up of films, the Festival Club at Adamson’s Bar will be the venue for live music each night of the weekend.
Tickets for all films can be purchased online at www.clonesfilmfestival.com.
