The Belfast Film Festival have announced that submissions are now open for the short film competition of their festival, which will run from the 16th – 25th April, 2015.
The short film competition aspires to support the talent of tomorrow, offer a voice for fledging filmmakers and create a platform where great untold stories can be shared.
Next April, the festival will screen over 50 of the most creative, entertaining and visionary short films from across the island of Ireland.
Last year’s winner of the short competition was the Irish-language short film ‘Rúbaí’. The film was directed by Louise Ní Fhiannachta, written by Antoin Beag Ó Colla and produced by Magmedia with funding from Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board’s Gearrscannáin short-film scheme.
The Belfast Film Festival began in 1995 as part of Féile An Phobail and has developed hand in hand with the evolving culture of film patronage and filmmaking in the city.
Aside from the shorts competition, the festival also boasts exciting events, interesting guest speakers and new Irish film screenings yet to be announced.
The regular deadline for anyone interested in submitting a short to the festival is December 31, 2014. The entry fee is £10. There is also a late deadline on January 14, 2015 with the entry fee for that being £20. The notification date for all applicants is February 20, 2015.
