59th Cork Film Festival Concludes on November 16th
14 Nov 2014 : Seán Brosnan
Cork Film Festival will conclude on Sunday, November 16th with screenings of films such as 'Jimi: All Is by My Side', 'The Homesman' and an exclusive screening of Disney's latest film 'Big Hero 6'.

The final day of the 59th Cork Film Festival sees a full day of screenings at the Cork Opera House.

Jimi: All is by my Side’, filmed mostly in Dublin, will be screening. The film is an intimate look into the life of Jimi Hendrix who is played by Outkast's André Benjamin with Irish actress Ruth Negga also starring.

In addition to this, the Family Animation Gala this year will host an exclusive screening of ‘Big Hero 6’, the latest offering from Walt Disney Animation Studios, ahead of its wide release on 30 January 2015.

‘Big Hero 6’ comes from the team behind the Oscar-winning ‘Frozen’, (which will be re-released on Friday 28 November throughout Ireland), which also made its Irish Festival Premiere debut in last year’s Festival.

James Mullighan, the festival's Creative Director: ‘We're delighted to present the Irish Festival Premiere of ‘Big Hero 6’, an action-packed kids film which doesn't fail to surprise, inspire and delight. Disney's latest offering steps away from their traditional animated stories, and have crafted a film which explores themes of loss, friendship, forgiveness and love. With a firm stronghold in the 21st century, the technology and science in 'Big Hero 6' will entertain any of your little aspiring techies!’

Tommy Lee Jones' film ‘The Homesman’ will also be shown. After the critical success of his directorial debut ‘The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada’, Tommy Lee Jones returns to the frontier in this tender, understated and occasionally violent tale, once again bringing something fresh and surprising to the genre.

Fittingly, for the developments in the space world, art imitates life with the presentation of a brand new digital transfer of ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ as the festival's Closing Gala. This is a chance to see Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece on one of the biggest screens in Ireland at the Cork Opera House.

Cork’s 59th Film Festival concludes on Sunday, 16th November.
