Theme of Foyle Film Festival’s Industry Conference is ‘from Shorts to Features’
14 Nov 2014 : Deirdre Molumby
Northern Ireland’s only Oscar-affiliated film festival, the Foyle Film Festival's first industry conference, in association with Honeycomb - Creative Works, will allow filmmakers who have made short films to learn how to go about making that first feature film and how to get it shown.

Topics covered in the conference will include the film development process, fundraising, marketing, the festival circuit, and more. Advice will be given by top industry figures on how to deal with inevitable set-backs and how to make your vision a reality. Attendees will be able to make contacts and network as well as to attend keynotes, panels, breakouts, script doctoring and pitching sessions, and see a wide range of films.

The conference will begin on the morning of Friday November 21st with a welcome introduction by host Stuart Kemp followed by an In Conversation with Andrea Arnold. Arnold will look back on her career of Oscar-winning shorts and features. A panel will then be held, entitled ‘From Shorts to Features… Make the Leap’, which is to include producer Andrew Eaton and actor Nico Mirallegro.

Other highlights of the day include an insight into the making of acclaimed biopic ‘Good Vibrations’, with producer Chris Martin and director Glenn Leyburn as guests, and a workshop on ‘Getting it Legaled’. A drinks reception and dinner at Derry’s Historic Guildhall will be held that night. ‘A City dreaming’ will also be screened that evening.

Panels on the Saturday of the conference will be on ‘Script Development & Pitching WITH CREATIVE SKILLSET’ and also on ‘Sales, Distribution & Marketing’. A number of Foyle film Festival competition screenings will be held in the evening.

Conference attendees who wish to stay on for the weekend will also have access to Foyle Film Festival screenings on Sunday November 23rd, including the festival’s closing Film and Light in Motion Awards Ceremony.

Special accommodation rates are available from Thursday, November 20 to Saturday, November 22 in The Maldron Hotel (formerly The Tower Hotel). Please email info@foylefilmfestival.org for more details. See the full programme for the conference or book here.
