Terry McMahon’s film ‘Patrick’s Day’ has won two jury awards at the Hell’s Half Mile Film and Music Festival in Michigan. The film received prizes in the categories of Best Actor, which was awarded to Moe Dunford, as well as Best Screenplay which went to McMahon, who both wrote and directed the film.
‘Patrick’s Day’ is McMahon second feature film as director after ‘Charlie Casanova’ and has been met with widespread acclaim. The film stars Moe Dunford as Patrick, a mentally ill young man who falls in love with a depressed flight attended (Catherine Walker) much to the disapproval of his mother (Kerry Fox).
It was the joint winner of the Best Irish Feature award at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh. ‘Patrick’s Day’ had its world premiere at the prestigious SXSW festival in February 2014. The film will also screen in Los Angeles on October 10th after winning the highly-coveted Screen Directors Guild ‘Finders Series’ Award. It will be shown to key distributors and film industry representatives in an effort to gain a US distribution deal.
Today it was announced that as regards Irish distribution, Wildcard has acquired the rights for the film. McMahon's film will be released in Irish cinemas in early 2015.
Speaking about the announcement, Terry McMahon said, “The ongoing international embrace of Patrick’s Day is beautiful but the perfect distributor for the Irish cinema release of Patrick’s Day is Wildcard. Their campaign for this film is brave, eclectic and smart and, most importantly for a film dealing with the taboo of intimacy and mental health, it will be all inclusive. Patrick’s Day is a bold, emotionally provocative, big screen movie and we can’t wait to screen it to Irish audiences.”
‘Patrick’s Day’ was made by Ignition Film Productions with Underground Films and Forefront Features in association with the Irish Film Board and RTÉ. You can watch the trailer for ‘Patrick’s Day’ in IFTN’s latest trailers.
