Irish Co-Productions ‘The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology’ & ‘Call Girl’ To Screen At TIFF
22 Aug 2012 : By Eva Hall
Philosopher and psychoanalyst Slavoj Zizek is the star of ‘The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology’
Documentary ‘The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology’ and feature film ‘Call Girl’ are the latest Irish co-productions added to the Toronto International Film Festival line-up.

‘The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology’, a Blinder Films co-production, will receive its world premiere in the Mavericks section on September 7. The 134 minute-long film is a follow up to director Sophie Fiennes’ 2006 documentary ‘The Pervert’s Guide to Cinema’. Working with philosopher and psychoanalyst Slavoj Zizek, Fiennes explores the ideologies in film clips, and traces connections for modern day ideologies.

The production was partly shot last year at Wicklow’s Ardmore Studios where the crew availed of the sound stages and recreated sets for the film. EMC Ltd in Dun Laoghaire looked after post-production with Ardmore Sound looking after sound.

Katie Holly produced for Blinder in Dublin, with James Wilson, Martin Rosenbaum and Sophie Fiennes. The documentary was co-financed by the Irish Film Board, the BFI, Film 4, Channel 4 and Rooks Nest.

‘Call Girl’, the debut feature from Stockholm filmmaker Mikael Marcimain, is based on the real-life scandal which linked a number of Swedish politicians to prostitutes in the 1970s.

The feature will screen as part of the festival’s Discovery section, and is a co-production between Ireland’s Newgrange Pictures and a number of Swedish-based production companies, including Garage Film International AB and Film i Vast.

Dublin’s Windmill Lane Pictures provided post-production for the feature, which was co-financed by the Irish Film Board, the Swedish Film Institute, Nordisk Film & TV fond, Norwegian Film Institute and the Finnish Film Foundation.

Both films will join the strong Irish lineup of Neil Jordan-directed ‘Byzantium’; Chris O’Dowd-starring ‘The Sapphires’, Seamus McGarvey’s cinematography work on ‘Anna Karenina’; Seán Ó’Cualáin-directed ‘Men At Lunch’; Kieron J Walsh-directed ‘Jump’ and Martin McDonagh-directed ‘Seven Psychopaths’.

The Toronto International Film Festival runs from September 6-16. For more information visit www.tiff.net.
