Windmill Invest In Colour
04 Jul 2014 : Deirdre Molumby
Windmill Lane Pictures are delighted to announce a substantial investment in their Grading Department by recently upgrading their entire FilmLight grading infrastructure. The facility has taken delivery of all new hardware and software, entirely replacing the existing systems with Generation V hardware and running the latest Baselight 4.4 software.

These new upgrades will significantly improve the speed and creative capabilities of our multiple Baselight grading systems, and also brings support for the many new digital file codecs used by the latest digital camera formats. The significantly increased power also enhances the facilities DI capabilities as the standard delivery spec for cinema delivery moves to 4K.

Alongside the upgrade, Windmill are involved with testing and developing new and exciting pipeline and creative features from Filmlight, including a Baselight Dailies service and Baselight Plugins for Avid and Nuke. This ensures the world renowned Baselight colour management system is now carried through the entire Production/Post-Production/VFX pipeline.

Dave Hughes, Windmill’s Head of Grading/DI comments: "This upgrade to our Baselight Systems gives us the ability to deliver superior performance, both creatively and technically, to our clients across features and television that is unrivalled by any other grading system."

Some recent features graded at Windmill by Dave Hughes & Matt Branton include ‘Leviathan’ (Dir. Andrei Zvyagintsev), ‘Miss Julie’ (Dir. Liv Ullmann), ‘Young Ones’ (Dir. Jake Paltrow), ‘Dare to be Wild’ (Dir. Vivienne De Courcy), ‘The Price of Desire’ (Dir. Mary McGuckian), ‘Let Us Prey’ (Dir. Brian O’Malley) and ‘An Bronntanas’ (Dir. Tom Collins) which closes this year’s 2014 Galway Film Fleadh. Commercial campaigns of note graded by Dave & Matt include Failte Ireland, Lidl Brand, Bank of Ireland, Cuisine De France, National Lottery, Spar, Irish Water, Eircom, Stena, Calor Gas & Club Zero.

Up and coming projects include ‘The Woods’ (Dir. Corin Hardy), ‘Moscow Never Sleeps’ (Dir. Johnny O’Reilly), ‘Brooklyn’ (Dir. John Crowley), ‘The Cherry Tree’ (Dir. David Keating), ‘L’Accabadora’ (Dir. Enrico Pau) and ‘Love/Hate 5’ (Dir. David Caffrey).

Dave Quinn, CEO of Windmill, adds: “The Baselight upgrade, along with the recent upgrades of our 3 Autodesk Flames, is a fantastic addition to our existing facilities and reflects our commitment to continuously invest and provide the best creative tools for our artists, with the fastest and most efficient workflows possible for our clients.”
