Spygirl Pictures, a New York-based genre film and television company, will be collaborating with Belfast-based Causeway Pictures to form Causeway NY, the US arm of the genre-based production company. The new firm plans to combine resources and funding opportunities to produce original content in Northern Ireland, Ireland and the US.
The first project to benefit from Causeway NY will be the US elements of ‘Hostage to the Devil’, a feature documentary about exorcist Father Malachi Martin in New York, which is helmed by Irish director, Marty Stalker. The film is currently in production, with shooting in the USA commencing this month. Umbrella Entertainment has already signed on to distribute the documentary in Australia and New Zealand.
Formed by Chris Patterson and Paddy McCarney in 2009, Causeway Pictures has co-produced incoming productions while developing a bank of original genre scripts. It aims to create Ireland’s only genre production house.

Spygirl founder Kat Green’s credits include editing and post-production projects for the Weinstein Company, HBO, A&E, MTV, and the Sundance Channel. Head of business development Susan Archer has a combined background in acting, production, and finance.
Spygirl Pictures and Causeway will work together on a genre feature slate that will consist mainly horror and sci-fi projects including horror actioner ‘Creedmore’ and apocalyptic love story ‘Dinner of the Dead’ by comic author Chris Miskiewicz, about a couple hashing out their relationship issues while fighting the zombie apocalypse.
Causeway NY will also provide production services in both locations for foreign and corporate projects.
