Irish Co-Production ‘Dreams Of A Life’ Secures US Release
16 Jul 2012 : By Steve Cummins
Actress Zawe Ashton in ‘Dreams of a Life’
‘Dreams of a Life’, an Irish co-production from Manchester director Carol Morley, will be released in the US next month after securing a distribution deal with Strand Releasing.

The US company has acquired all rights for the feature documentary which was recently screened at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival and follows the case of 38 year-old Joyce Vincent, who died in her London apartment in 2003.

Vincent's skeleton was not discovered until three years later in her flat, where the TV and heating were still on. Morley (The Alcohol Years) has said she made the film so Vincent would “not remain forgotten”.

Strand will release the documentary in the US on August 3 after buying the rights from Entertainment One.

The film features a series of dramatic reconstructions of Joyce’s life that were partly filmed in Dublin with the film receiving funding from the Irish Film Board. The documentary’s reconstructed scenes were shot at Hannay Studios in north Dublin with Vincent played by English actress Zawe Ashton (St. Trinian's 2: The Legend of Fritton's Gold).

Post-production on the feature was done at Dublin post house Egg with all of the grading, finishing and digital cinema print carried out by Sebastian Guest and Edel McDonnell. Other Irish crew who worked on the shoot included costume designer Leonie Pendergast; art director Emma Lowney; third assistant director Mike Hays and sound recordist Robert Flanagan.

‘Dreams of a Life’ was co-produced by Irish producer James Mitchell’s (Ordinary Decent Criminal) Soho Moon Pictures alongside Britain’s Cannon and Morley Productions.

The project also received support from Film4, Shoot For The Moon and the UK Film Council.
