Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB) very much regrets that Cinemobile, Ireland's only mobile cinema, is to cease trading tomorrow, July 15th. The IFB has consistently supported the Cinemobile since its genesis in 2000, but unfortunately it has become impossible for Cinemobile to make up the deficit caused in recent years by the gradual erosion of its core funding from other public funding partners.
The Board and staff at the IFB would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the Cinemobile board and staff over the past 16 years, and in particular the work of Noreen Collins and Goretti O'Brien over the last decade.
Cinemobile has played a unique and important role in the film sector in Ireland since its establishment as a Millennium project in 2000, bringing the big screen cinematic experience to small towns without a cinema, community projects, festivals and school children throughout the island of Ireland for sixteen years.
In a statement to IFTN on Monday this week, the Board of Cinemobile said "The Board would like to acknowledge with thanks the consistent and unwavering support by the Irish Film Board of Cinemobile." See that statement in full
